The foundry industry utilizes a diverse array of casting processes to manufacture castings in various sizes and complexities. Among these, eight casting methods stand out as the most common, each suited for specific applications and production requirements.
Learn more about these eight key casting processes and explore the wide range of specialised products that Foseco supplies to support and optimise each of them, helping foundries improve efficiency, quality, and sustainability in their operations.
HPDC systems are highly automated for rapid cycle times (under a minute). Unlike low-pressure or gravity die casting, insulating refractory linings aren't used—high heat transfer is required to cool castings quickly.

Alpha crucibles are rib formed clay - graphite crucibles which have been developed with a specific modified electrical resistivity which optimises the coupling power of the crucible and avoids the risk of overheating.
Applications
They are suitable for all furnace systems of non-ferrous metal alloys and precious metals.
Alpha Typical Metal Casting Temperature
400°C - 1400°C (752°F - 2552°F).
Performance Characteristics
High refractoriness ensures perfect applications for holding furnaces where maintaining metal temperature without leading to heat loss.
Good resistance to chemical corrosion ensures application in the most aggressive of environments.
Good thermal shock resistance.
High mechanical strength guarantees robust usage.
Good oxidation resistance.
Identification
Alpha crucibles are coloured black.
Pattern Range
Alpha crucibles are available in a comprehensive range of shapes and sizes to suit most end user requirements. Custom sizes can be supplied by special request.
